Birthdays and Easter all rolled in to one!  Village Sweets has been making cakes with an animal theme lately (or insects haha), one trend to another…  with Easter having been just around the corner, I am cheating and posting my Easter tarts as well, Oooops.

60TH Anniversary

A special 60th Anniversary cake last weekend.  A White tiered cake with a Lemon Cream Filling and frosted entirely with a Swiss Butter-cream all in pretty roses large and small.  Glistening Gumpaste Snowflakes because they were married so close to Christmas… My mother’s father dropped their wedding cake (Oooops!), so I thought I would make them a special one for their 60th.

Love doing Theme Cakes !!

Village Sweets created their first “Make-Up” cake…  woohoooo!  First the cake, a vanilla cake with a Dulce de Leche filling plus a whipped cream filling and I frosted the cake with a smooth Vanilla Butter Cream frosting and topped it all off with a Pretty Pink Fondant covering.  A quilted look with silver Dragées just made it gorgeous, some gum paste make up accessories and voilà this cake was ready to get eaten!

TYE DYE DEEEELIGHT

Village Sweets made a tye dye Birthday cake today.  The cake was Mocha flavor, layered with Chocolate Whipped Cream and frosted with a Swiss Buttercream and to complete the cake, a tye dye fondant covered our cake.  “HaPpY BiRtHdAy Caroline !!”

Have your Skateboard & Eat it Too

Village Sweets worked on a special theme cake this week.  An all edible Skateboard for Gab. After figuring out the design, we were ready to create a cool looking skateboard complete with wheels and a ramp.  We added a checkerboard, flames and skull design to the top of the board. This skateboard was made of a Red Velvet cake with a Vanilla Butter-cream frosting covered in a cherry red fondant (Gab’s favorite color).  The ramp, also made with the red velvet cake and the wheels were fashioned out of Rice Krispie’s.

Pretty in Pink

This cake was fashioned in  “3” and a “0” for a woman who is turning, you got it, 30!  tons of big roses in soft pink decorated both the numbers and a pennant banner was something different for the mention of the birthday girl.  Deep delicious and moist chocolate cake with butter-cream frosting, and just a few pearlesscent beads (edible) to add a little special detail to the cake.  We think,  so Pretty in Pink!  Bonne Fête Wilnie !!

Sweet 16 Cake Artist Style

Just finished a cake for a girl’s Sweet 16 Birthday.  She is an artist, so a funky artsy style cake was the perfect theme.  Her favorite color is Pink, so beautiful colors of pink Fondant and frosting were used for the details of this luscious cake!  The perfect embellishments were gum paste paintbrushes, an easel (not all edible but kitchen grade), a paint board and a canvas with the birthday girl’s b-day announcement.  Thank you Micheal and HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANTONIA!!

A Perfect Day For Baking!

Feels like Fall has definitely arrived.  A little chilly this morning, and seeing I was up very early this morning and the clouds were looming,  I figured it was the perfect day for some baking.  It was a day for Village Sweets to work in the test kitchen and come up with a few frostings that are not sweet but have definite taste.  Buttercream is usually our choice, made of 100% good old fashioned butter, not the artificial stuff.   But it is still on the sweet side.  So the work begins…

7 hours later… I made some vanilla cupcakes, strawberry cupcakes and mocha cupcakes.  I prepared 2 different buttercreams, a swiss style and a cooked style.  I love them both. They are light, and airy and best of all THEY AREN’T TOO SWEET!  DELISH!
